Song Lyrics As Poetry

"If I Ain't Got You" by Alicia Keys is an example of song lyrics as poetry. This song contains symbols and simile. For example one of the lines says " Some people search for a fountain" the fountain meaning a thirst quencher, something that would satisfy a person. I like this song because it means a lot, although it's not grotesque but clear, it consists the same structure of a poem.

"If I Ain't Got You"

Some people live for the fortune
Some people live just for the fame
Some people live for the power, yeah
Some people live just to play the game
Some people think that the physical things
Define what's within
And I've been there before
But that life's a bore
So full of the superficial

[Chorus:]
Some people want it all
But I don't want nothing at all
If it ain't you baby
If I ain't got you baby
Some people want diamond rings
Some just want everything
But everything means nothing
If I ain't got you, Yeah

Some people search for a fountain
That promises forever young
Some people need three dozen roses
And that's the only way to prove you love them
Hand me the world on a silver platter
And what good would it be
With no one to share
With no one who truly cares for me

Spring Poems

The poem that I most like is Birds Again, I liked this poem because its grotesque, and the simile is very interesting of how the birds inside the person relates to the seasons. It reminds me of the moods, one can be depressed  but then it brightens up.

Pablo Neruda Poem

The poem that I liked the most of Pablo Neruda is Ode to Clothes. I like this poem because I like the way he puts a meaning on clothes, I find it a little humorous. He emphasizes on the pants it self, for example "my legs look for the hollow of your legs".

Robert Frost Poem

My favorite poem from Robert Frost is Flower-gathering. I chose this poem because of the metaphor he uses. The persona is a flower. The poem has a round character, which is why this poem interests me the most, it is emotional for example when it says, "To make me sad to go". He also uses  visual imagery for example "gaunt and dusty grey with roaming". It also seems as he's giving a message throughout the poem. It gets intense in the middle of the poem, it caught my attention when it mentions "Are you dumb because you know me not?".
