Creative Nonfiction

The work of nonfiction that speaks to me is "I'm just getting to the disturbing part". I enjoy this work because it's something realistic that I can relate to. It describes a hot summer day with visual imagery. I like the way the narrator is so honest. He describes things as they are. The way he describes the heat, makes me not want to be in his shoes. He is also humorous because they buy a pink Barbie pool to stay cool, I found that very funny, picturing him in a Barbie pool.

Raymond Carver

The short story that I found catchy was Little Things.I liked this short story because it's very dramatic and realistic at the same time.It seems like its an everyday scene in people's life. It was also a very clear story there was nothing grotesque about it. Raymond Carver's short sories differ from Gabriel Garcia Marquez' because Carver's are more dramatic but clear. It's more realistic then Marquez's fictional stories. It was not grotesque or ironic like Marquez's short stories. Definitely not confusing at all.

Gabriel Garcia Marquez

This picture I took when I went to San Carlos, MX this past spring break, reminded me of Gabriel Garcia Marquez tale The Incredible and Sad Tale of Innocent Erendira and Her Heartless Grandmother. It reminded me so much of this tale because San Carlos is also a desert, and everytime they would mention the sea this is what came to my mind.

Times I've been a rhinoceros and a Berenger

I have been a rhinoceros usually in the beginning of every quarter when classes begin. I get lazy, conformed and don't feel like working hard or studying and doing homework. I think everyone is that way in the beginning, but then we get into a school mode and evnetually I picked up my pase.
I have been a Berenger at work. I work at a bank, and when it came down to sales and referrals for the month of December I wanted to be number one and be distinguished. I tried my best to be ahead of everyone I wasn't conformed with having less referrals like everyone else. I ended up getting the most sales, and it was very satisfactory to me.

Song Lyrics As Poetry

"If I Ain't Got You" by Alicia Keys is an example of song lyrics as poetry. This song contains symbols and simile. For example one of the lines says " Some people search for a fountain" the fountain meaning a thirst quencher, something that would satisfy a person. I like this song because it means a lot, although it's not grotesque but clear, it consists the same structure of a poem.

"If I Ain't Got You"

Some people live for the fortune
Some people live just for the fame
Some people live for the power, yeah
Some people live just to play the game
Some people think that the physical things
Define what's within
And I've been there before
But that life's a bore
So full of the superficial

[Chorus:]
Some people want it all
But I don't want nothing at all
If it ain't you baby
If I ain't got you baby
Some people want diamond rings
Some just want everything
But everything means nothing
If I ain't got you, Yeah

Some people search for a fountain
That promises forever young
Some people need three dozen roses
And that's the only way to prove you love them
Hand me the world on a silver platter
And what good would it be
With no one to share
With no one who truly cares for me

Spring Poems

The poem that I most like is Birds Again, I liked this poem because its grotesque, and the simile is very interesting of how the birds inside the person relates to the seasons. It reminds me of the moods, one can be depressed  but then it brightens up.

Pablo Neruda Poem

The poem that I liked the most of Pablo Neruda is Ode to Clothes. I like this poem because I like the way he puts a meaning on clothes, I find it a little humorous. He emphasizes on the pants it self, for example "my legs look for the hollow of your legs".
